An All Progressives Congress aspirant for the Edo State governorship election, Clem Agba, on Wednesday, submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination form at the party secretariat in Abuja.

Agba is the immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.

The Independent National Electoral Commission said the Edo governorship election will be held on September 21, 2024.

While addressing journalists on Wednesday, after he met with some members of the party’s National Working Committee, Agba said, “As a leader, let me quickly say if you don’t check on your people and inspect what they have been mandated to do, you will be disappointed. What I am bringing to Edo is the trust factor.

“After all, Edo is the heartbeat of Nigeria and requires someone with capacity, who has worked at the national and sub national level and can fulfil the mandate of the people.

“Let me also add that I am fully prepared to transform the rural and urban sector of the state together.”

More aspirants have continued to defy the resolution of the committee set up at the instance of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Prof Julius Ihonvbere, which earlier pruned the list of contestants to six.

The six anointed aspirants were Ernest Umakhihe (Owan East LGA), Clem Agba (Etsako East LGA), Lucky Imasuen (Ovia North East LGA, Dennis Idahosa (Ovia South West LGA), David Imuse (Esan West LGA) and Monday Okpebholo (Esan Central LGA).

Other aspirants running in the race to secure the party ticket ahead of the September governorship poll include two-term governorship candidate Osagie Ize-Iyamu; a former Edo State Governor, Oserheimen Osunbor; ex-Edo APC Chairman, Dr. David Imuse; South South Zonal Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere; and veteran politicians such as Gideon Ikhine, Col. David Onabure, and Major General Charles Airhiavbere (retd).
