Jurgen Klopp grabs Sky Sports News reporter in headlock at Liverpool training ground – The Mirror
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Sky Sports reporter Vinnie O’Connor were involved in a light-hearted altercation at the Reds’ training ground on Thursday
Jurgen Klopp jokingly got Sky Sports reporter Vinnie O'Connor in a headlock on Thursday – and the Liverpool boss couldn't help but make a comment about this weekend's kick-off time.
The Reds make the trip to face Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, with the game set to start at 12:30pm live on Sky Sports. This is the third successive time in which Liverpool have played in the early kick-off in the immediate match after an international break so far this season.
Klopp has previously vented his frustration about Liverpool kicking off at that time in the past, and the German decided to aim a light-hearted dig as he came across O'Connor at the Reds' training ground. Footage captured by Sky Sports showed Klopp getting O'Connor in a headlock, before Klopp said: "Thank you for the 12:30".
The pair then exchanged a few words as they watched the Reds train ahead of their mouth-watering trip to City. Liverpool can leapfrog their opponents to the top of the Premier League table with victory at the Etihad Stadium, a ground they have not won at since April 2018.
That came during a Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie, as the Reds ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. In fact, Liverpool's last Premier League victory at the Etihad came in Klopp's first trip with Liverpool back in November 2015.
Despite that recent wretched six-game winless record at the Etihad, Liverpool will be confident of surprising the Premier League champions, given their impressive start. The Reds have lost one top-flight match all season, winning eight and drawing the other three from 12 fixtures.
Liverpool earned a 3-0 win over Brentford before the international break and Klopp hailed his side's start to the campaign after that match. "I didn't think about it, but I got told," the German said on moving to second in the table. "It feels good but it's November.
"What is really important is we have the points tally similar to other teams because we obviously didn't play perfect football yet, not even close. We fight our way through, we've had good moments, less-good moments. We showed today, it's all fine, but in the end you have to keep going with all the other teams until March or April or whatever.
"If we are still there then we can start talking, [but] until then you fight your way through the most difficult league in the world. Be ready on Thursday, be ready on Sunday, be ready on Thursday and if the Premier League has the opportunity to do it then be ready 12.30 on Saturday, and we will do that."
