It's been a busy day of football news with EFL Cup reaction plus this weekend's Premier League action to look forward to – as well as the ongoing crisis at Old Trafford.
We're wrapping up this live page for the day now but here's a reminder of the key stories we've brought you:

Before we leave you for today, here's a quick bit of managerial news from League Two.
Tranmere Rovers have appointed interim boss Nigel Adkins as their permanent manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Myself and Gary O'Neil had a few midfield battles in the past. I'm scratching my head a little as to how he's helped Wolves – who are now 12th – improve as quickly as he has.
O’Neil, I think, was left with a squad of good players but no real strength in depth. I think he has a good staff around him and he is surprising everyone.
The results he had at Bournemouth last season were incredible. I think he creates a spirit, desire and a good environment to work in. Everyone said Wolves are in real trouble and yet he’s produced big results.
I don’t know how he has done it if you want the honest truth as they looked in disarray. I still go back to that Manchester United game at the start of the season and it just gave them a whole massive lift, as they tried to have a go and had tonnes of chances.
Before that I think some in the changing room may have thought, ‘We’re in trouble’.
O'Neil has managed to create a confidence on how to play and has managed to get the detail across to his players. With plenty of international players in a group, you may not always get everyone to buy into it. So again, he’s done well to do that.
And to cap it off, I think he’s also interviewed in the media really well and with great honesty. He looks like he’s grown into the role much more comfortably than expected.

Sheffield United
Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom on the return of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Ollie McBurnie from injury: “It shouldn’t be long. This game is too early, the next game is a possibility. We want them back as soon as possible but we won’t risk anything.”
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou on Tottenham's Premier League title chances: "I'm not so much a dreamer, I'm very much in the reality of day to day.
"I thought we coped well with the challenge we had the other night [against Crystal Palace] but we know there's another challenge for us on Monday. Looking beyond that doesn't really serve any purpose.
"Supporters, by all means, this is their football club and they've got to enjoy it if things are going well and it provides them with some hopes and dreams and aspirations. But my task is more the mundane day to day."

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou begins with some team news regarding Italian left-back Destiny Udogie, who missed the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace last time out, and Ben Davies, who replaced Udogie in the starting XI at Palace only to come off at half-time.
"We'll see how [Udogie] progresses," said Postecoglou. "We've got a few days to go before Monday's game and we'll assess him closer to it.
"Ben Davies has a bit of a knock and hasn't trained with the team yet so he's unlikely for Monday but, again, we've got a couple of days to go."
Crystal Palace
On goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and forward Jordan Ayew signing new contracts on Wednesday, Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson said: “We had the good news with Michael Olise early on in the year, now those two, and I believe the club are working very hard with Ebere Eze and I think they're fairly confident it won't be too long before we can announce him as well, so that would be great.
“But it's good to know that the players that we've got that we want to keep and we want to help us are committing their future to the club.
“These matters are taken care of by Steve Parish and Doug Freedman and they keep me informed. I don't have any impact on that.”Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, 76, on Saturday's opponents Burnley and their manager Vincent Kompany, 37: “It's young versus old, I can't get away from that. But I honestly don't believe in that.
“I know that people will relate to experience, perhaps, but he seems like a pretty experienced man to me with all the incredible success he's had over the years, not only with his club sides but with Belgium, so he brings plenty to his team.
“They've made some investment, they've brought some players in, but it's never going to be easy for any club like Burnley or Crystal Palace or any others you can mention to really deal with the Premier League at the top level because their resources are so much greater than the rest of the league.
“They're doing like the rest of us, trying to make as good a fist as they can in the matches, and we expect it to be a very tough game.”Crystal Palace
Ebere Eze and Michael Olise are set to remain out with thigh injuries but Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson says they could be available again for next week's home game with Everton.
"They're making good strides," said Hodgson. "Ebs has been released to us this week so he's taken part in training pretty much as normal.
"The sports science people are a little bit more careful with [Olise], so they haven’t released him to us to the same extent, but he has taken part in parts of the training sessions and he's looking good."
On Tyrick Mitchell, Hodgson added: “He felt his quad, I think it was, in the [Tottenham] game, but it was more of a precaution that we took him off. He’s trained all week."
James Tomkins, Nathan Ferguson and Dean Henderson all remain out.
It won't matter if you sack ETH and bring in a high calibre manager, the current crop of players are just not good enough for Man United. You can bring in Pep and he'll struggle to get fourth with these players. Massive clear out was needed last summer and it's needed in Jan/next summer. The players signed recently at inflated prices just show how poorly the club is being run at the moment. The amount of games we've lost at home this season is beyond embarrassing. Every away team that walks out at Old Trafford now say this is a win in the bag.
Drew, Coventry
With Manchester City's recent dip in form coinciding with Rodri's absence from the team, it has shown how important he is to the side. He gives the team confidence, knowing that there is a holding player sat there.
I think some time ago Pep Guardiola became really concerned about his team being counter-attacked when they had so much control. He is very much concerned about keeping full control of the game and not leaving any gaps for the counter. When Rodri is there he feels they are in a much better situation.
Full-backs can go knowing there is extra cover and Rodri understands his role comes into play when he helps the centre-backs. He gets out to wider areas and allows a player like Ruben Dias to go further forward as he can step back into those positions. Defensively that is so important and I think that is what he was brought in to become.
What Rodri has developed over the years for me with Guardiola is how good he is on the ball now. He takes the ball in situations, draws people in to come and press, then can create a box at times with someone like John Stones coming in next to him.
Overall he is just so comfortable in those positions and he makes the right decisions. I do not think he was like this when he first came but now he is incredible on the ball and has gone onto the next level.
With his stature, his style, his all-round play, there is just much more confidence with him in the team. Not just as a defensive midfielder but being able to help the team on the ball and going forward now too.

Bournemouth
Cherries boss Andoni Iraola on the challenges Manchester City pose:
"They have so many different ways of doing the same things – if you prepare for one thing, they will change in five minutes and then you have to find another solution. And then they will change again.
"You have to prepare very well, players have to be ready for adjustments all the time, every minute."

More from Cherries boss Andoni Iraola on the challenge of a trip to Etihad Stadium:
"We have to continue improving the last passes in transitions – against Liverpool [in the EFL Cup] we were three against three, three against two, where we didn't finish with a clear chance. In the last third, we need to improve.
"To get a result against these teams at their stadiums, you need them not to have their best day, but this is something we cannot control – we can affect only ourselves and try to not give easy goals or penalties.

Andoni Iraola on bidding to end Bournemouth's 12-game losing run against Manchester City:

United have enough good players to challenge for CL football as they have demonstrated in the past. The trouble is ETH committed the cardinal sin of publicly throwing a player under the bus. Trust and respect gone.

Everton
Everton boss Sean Dyche on the Toffees' climb up the table after three wins in five Premier League games:
"I'm not obsessed with the table at this stage, I always say it's a season's work and it always has been – the ups and downs, you have to manage them as a team.
"So I'm really looking at the plan for the season but so far I think there's progress and that was the first marker – from the last season, can we progress, can we look like a stronger, more effective unit?
"And I think there are strong signs that, with how we're playing, that we are in very good shape."Everton
Sean Dyche on in-form Everton winger Jack Harrison's impact following his summer move from Leeds:
"He came in injured unfortunately but he's dealt with that side of things and he's got sharper and fitter and I think that's a big thing.
"He's infectious among the group, very good around the group before you even get him on the pitch and he's got that way of playing, that busy nature, and he's been very effective for us so far.
"There's a lot of good signs and it's about continuation now."Everton
Toffees manager Sean Dyche on facing Brighton on Saturday:
"They are a very good side and they are showing that.
"You have to be tactically right but you have to impress yourself upon the game as well and I thought we did that very well against them away last season [Everton won 5-1] and we are going to have to do that again.
"Teams who have done well against them have delivered good tactical performances.
"There's a good feel about our team and a good feel at Goodison at the minute so we want to use all of those things to our advantage."
