Intel, the chip-making giant, on Friday announced a deal with eight domestic Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) firms and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to expedite the production of “Make-in-India” laptops in the country. Intel’s collaboration involves Bhagwati Products Ltd, Dixon Technologies India Ltd, Kaynes Technology India Ltd, Optiemus Electronics Ltd, Panache Digilife Ltd, Smile Electronics Ltd, Syrma SGS Technology Ltd, and VVDN Technologies Private Ltd. This collaboration is in line with Intel’s commitment to driving technology-driven progress in support of the Make in India campaign.
Following the successful artificial summit (AI) Safety Summit in the UK, Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has announced that the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) will convene in New Delhi in December, the media has reported. This comes amid growing concerns over AI-related risks.
At a summit in the UK, India joined forces with 27 other nations, such as the US, the UK, and the European Union (EU), in inking a declaration. This agreement signifies their commitment to collaborate on assessing the risks linked with AI, driven by mounting concerns regarding the potential disruptions AI could induce. The deal was inked by the MoS IT. Chandrasekhar highlighted India’s commitment, stating that about two years ago, the government began articulating clear principles and foundational elements for technology policy-making, aiming to address both present and future needs.
WhatsApp has banned a record over 71 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of September, in compliance with the new IT Rules 2021. Between September 1-30, the company banned “71,11,000 accounts”. About 25,71,000 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users, WhatsApp said in its monthly compliance report. The most popular messaging platform, which has over 500 million users in the country, received another record 10,442 complaint reports in September in the country, and the records “actioned” were 85. 

Apple has become the leader in global smartphone market revenue, with an all-time high of 43 per cent in the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, according to a new report released on Friday. Global smartphone market revenues remained stable year-on-year (YoY) but increased by 15 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), surpassing $100 billion in the September quarter.
