I would have liked to have seen – whether it was a racquet smash or a roar or something – after Novak went down those two sets, I needed to see an outburst to kind of reset his energy. He was so flat for so long and then there was a game at 3-2 in the third set where he really came alive but it was a bit too late.
He went back to his normal game style which was at the baseline attacking the serve of Alcaraz but the serve and volley tactic was odd to me – I’ve never seen Novak look so confused at such a crucial stage of a tournament.

Carlos Alcaraz powered to victory over an out-of-sorts Novak Djokovic to retain his men's singles title at Wimbledon.
The repeat of last year's final failed to live up to the five-set thriller of 12 months ago as Djokovic appeared mostly helpless against the dominant Spaniard.
After squandering three championship points when trying to serve out the victory, Alcaraz held his arms aloft after battling through the third-set tie-break for a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) win.
"Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy," said Alcaraz.
"I did an interview when I was 11 and I said my dream is to win Wimbledon."
Gracious in defeat, Djokovic shared a smile and warm embrace with Alcaraz at the net after his comprehensive loss.

It was an annihilation. Alcaraz was phenomenal. The tone was set in the first game where Alcaraz broke Djokovic. He was relentless and gave Djokovic nothing to get his teeth stuck into.
Djokovic hung on in that third set and got it to a tie-break but today was all about one man.

Djokovic didn't have to play this event, he wasn't 100% but he decided to play it. Alcaraz was just too much today. The forehand passing shot and the shot making we saw from Carlos was amazing.
Is there enough in Djokovic's tank to get one more slam?
Hewett/Reid 6-4 7-6 (7-2) Miki/Oda
Britain's wheelchair doubles champions have been speaking on court three.
Gordon Reid: "Thanks everybody, it must have been a tough decision between us and Carlos and Novak but we really appreciate you guys coming.
"You guys made a great atmosphere for us which is always special. It really drove us to turn things around in the second set. Thanks for the support."
Alfie Hewett: "Let's hope England don't mess it up later [in the football]. It's been a memorable day, definitely the best day of my life.
"Today's the stuff of dreams really. It was very emotional earlier in the singles but I wanted to come back and retain the title."

The way Alcaraz has played at Roland Garros and at Wimbledon, I don't think he's been at his best at times. The intensity and the focus he showed today, there was no let off.

Alcaraz will carry our sport a long way. He will be the face of this sport alongside [Jannik] Sinner. He had three match points and somehow focused for the tie-break.
The biggest enemy he'll have is his body. How healthy can he stay? I think he'll have upwards of 15 slams for sure.

This is Carlos Alcaraz's fourth Grand Slam title.
He won the US Open in 2022, Wimbledon last year and the French Open five weeks ago.

Britain's Alfie Hewett has done the double.
After winning the singles earlier today he and his partner Gordon Reid have just secured the doubles title on a sun-kissed court three.
The pair have beaten Japan's Takuya Miki and Tokito Oda 6-4 7-6 (7-2) in a repeat of last year's final.
They're dominance at Wimbledon together is remarkable. That's their sixth win in eight years.

I think last year Alcaraz started really slow but this year was a totally different story, he came out with a lot of energy and there was a 15-minute first game and he got the break and that really set the tone."
I think Novak started panicking a little bit with the game plan, started serving and volleying, he went to the net probably more times today than he had previously in any other match [in the tournament].
Djokovic has beaten every great of the game – Federer, Nadal, playing his game style, so coming out today with something completely different was definitely odd. Whether it was him not being able to go physically the way he wanted – maybe he wanted to keep points short. But as I said, Alcaraz was feeling it a little too much.”

Alcaraz is not just all about power, he’s super fast of course, he’s putting pressure on Novak to hit the lines. It felt like Novak’s legs weren’t going, maybe all these matches after surgery he didn’t have the complete spring in his step.
But the power took Novak by surprise, Alcaraz barely missed a forehand when we’ve seen him missing them all tournament really. It’s not what we expected, we were hoping for a great five-set match, but we saw just about perfection on Centre Court from Alcaraz today and that has to be admired.
I’ll go away thinking Alcaraz brought his match when it really mattered. It was all round a perfect performance, almost a breath-taking type of tennis he did on the biggest stage there is.

Alcaraz always had the answers. The first set wasn't even close. When he needed it most in the tie-break, it was like Djokovic blinked almost.

Here he is, the people's champion. Alcaraz blows kisses from the Centre Court balcony as the crowd chant "Carlos, Carlos, Carlos".

More from Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz on the dance with women's champion Barbora Krejcikova: "Let's see. [My dancing] could be better, I guess. Let's see tonight. I try to do my best."
On Novak Djokovic: "I'm so nervous in this speech and I forgot to have some words for Novak and his team. It's been a difficult few weeks for you.
"You had surgery after the French Open and you didn't know if you could make the tournament and you made the final.
"It is something difficult to realise that you played points and matches just two weeks after your surgery. Great job and keep going."
On his team: "My team and family, everyone up there supporting. It's been an amazing four weeks. I've practiced hard.
"All the support every day, every week. It's unbelievable to have you there. Thank you very much and hopefully we'll have more times like this."

Carlos Alcaraz speaking after winning his second Wimbledon title: "Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy. I did an interview when I was 11 and I said my dream is to win Wimbledon. I want it to keep going. It is a great feeling to play on this beautiful court and lift this amazing trophy. It is the most beautiful court and trophy."
Resetting after match points: "It was 40-0 but I was seeing so far away. Djokovic is an unbelievable fighter and I knew he would have his chances again and i tried to win the point with the serve, I couldn't. It was difficult for me. I tried to stay calm and positive.
"In the tie-break, I tried to play my best tennis. I was glad I could find the solutions. I'm really happy to be in this situation and playing a great tie-break."
On being sixth man in open era to win the double: "Fighting, believing. I don't know. it is a huge honour for me to be a part of those players. I'm really happy to be at the same table as Novak to do it. Huge champions. I don't consider myself a champion yet. Not like them. I try to keep going and building my path, my journey."
On Euro 2024 final: "I will watch it with my team for sure. I don't know where but I'll watch it for sure. I've already done my job so let's see for the football. It's going to be a really difficult match. I'll watch it."
