Denmark won the European Championship for the first time when they beat Germany back in 1992
Denmark will be hoping to stage a repeat of one of the most famous victories in their history when they face Euro 2024 hosts Germany in their last-16 match on Saturday.
The Danes famously beat the Germans 2-0 back in 1992 to win the European Championship for the first time.
Both these sides are unbeaten so far at the tournament but Denmark defender Jannik Vestergaard is confident he and his team-mates are capable of not just beating Germany, but potentially repeating their success from 32 years ago.
"We know that to win the tournament it would be a bit of an upset," he said. "But we like being underdogs.
"Germany will be favourites, but we like being a bit of a pain to the opposition and playing to our strengths."
Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand believes Germany will need to be at their very best to have a chance of beating his side.
"At the start I considered Germany one of the favourites, and it's too bad that they're playing us," he said.
"They have quality and talent, and expressed themselves very well in the group. But we also have quality and talent, and they'll have to be very, very good to beat us."
Much of the pre-match discussion in Germany is about Niclas Fullkrug and whether the Borussia Dortmund striker could make his first start of the tournament.
He has played just 73 minutes so far at the tournament but scored two goals and could come in for Kai Havertz, or even start alongside the Arsenal forward.
“I have not followed the discussion," said Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, regarding the debate over who should start.
"We decide who will play. There are always discussions about everyone. We have enough expertise with our staff so we don’t need to follow the discussions to have a good solution."
Germany and Denmark have met four times previously, with the countries winning two games apiece.
"Denmark are a very well-organised team," added Nagelsmann.
"There are phases where they are very aggressive defensively but then make great one-touch attacks.
"They have a lot of experienced players in the squad and a clear structure. It's a tough opponent, for sure."
Denmark could be without key midfielder Christian Eriksen after he sat out training on Friday because of a stomach issue, while Morten Hjulmand – who scored against England in the group stage – is suspended.
Germany defender Antonio Rudiger is a doubt after only returning to training on Friday following a hamstring strain.
Centre-back Jonathan Tah is suspended, so Nico Schlotterbeck is set to start.

Germany have reached the UEFA EURO knockout stages for a fifth consecutive tournament. Their last two knockout matches have both ended in 2-0 defeats, to France in the EURO 2016 semi-final and England in the EURO 2020 round of 16.
Denmark have reached the knockout stages of the UEFA European Championship in consecutive editions for the first time in their history, having reached the semi-final at EURO 2020. The Danes have only won three of their nine knockout matches in the finals (D2 L4), two of which were at EURO 2020.
The two teams hosting a UEFA EURO round of 16 match have both won, with France beating the Republic of Ireland at EURO 2016 in Lyon and England beating Germany at EURO 2020 at Wembley. Excluding penalty shootouts, host nations have only lost two of their last 14 knockout matches (W7 D5), both in the final and both 1-0 defeats – Portugal in 2004 vs Greece and France in 2016 vs Portugal.
Denmark have only won three of their last 15 matches at major tournaments (World Cup/EUROs), drawing seven and losing five. They are winless in their last seven such games (D4 L3), drawing all three of their group games at this year’s European Championship.
In the group stage, Christian Eriksen was directly involved in 55% of Denmark’s 42 shots, attempting 10 and creating the chance for a further 13. He is the first Denmark player to register both 10+ shots and 10+ chances created at a single edition of a major tournament (World Cup/EUROs).
Niclas Füllkrug has scored four goals in six major tournament appearances for Germany, with all games and goals coming as a substitute. Among all European players to play at least 100 minutes at the FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO combined, only Poland’s Ernst Wilimowski (one every 30 mins) has a better minutes per goal ratio than Füllkrug (one every 35 mins).
Germany midfielder Toni Kroos completed 324 passes in the EURO 2024 group stages, the most ever by a player in a single group stage at the European Championship. Among all players to play 1,000+ minutes in the competition since 1980, Kroos has completed the most passes per 90 minutes of any player (92).
