Penn State Health today celebrated the expansion of its integrated network of comprehensive cancer services with a groundbreaking ceremony for Penn State Health Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center, 2200 Good Hope Road, Enola.
The new cancer center, which is expected to open in October 2025, will ensure patients have easy access to world-class care from a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists, as well as innovative therapies, the latest technology and the benefits of lifesaving cancer research all close to home.
“Today, after three years of preparation and detailed planning, we are one step closer to fulfilling our promise to provide patients with easy access to coordinated, leading-edge cancer care in one location on the West Shore,” said Kyle Snyder, president of Penn State Health’s Hampden and Holy Spirit medical centers. “Patients will have access to physician appointments, diagnostics, treatments and therapies, pharmacy services, patient education, social supports and more. The new cancer center is the latest example of how we continue to optimize our two-hospital strategy on the West Shore to ensure we are meeting the health care needs of the communities we serve.”

The cancer center also represents Penn State Health and Highmark Health’s long-term goal of ensuring that everyone in the communities the health system serves has access to virtual care in 0 minutes and is within 10 minutes of a Penn State Health primary care provider, 20 minutes of its specialty care services and 30 minutes of a Penn State Health acute care hospital.
“At the heart of our cancer services is patient-centered care, ensuring our patients’ needs come first,” said Dr. Marc Rovito, vice president and physician leader for cancer services at Penn State Health. “At Penn State Health Cancer Center at Hampden Medical Center, patients will receive high-quality, personalized, multidisciplinary care, conveniently located close to home and their support networks.”
Penn State Health Cancer Services is committed to fighting cancer on every front: through education and prevention, early detection and diagnosis, effective treatment, and survivorship programs. Clinical services are offered at three locations in central Pennsylvania—Hershey (at Penn State Cancer Institute), Reading (at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center) and State College (through a partnership with Mount Nittany Health). The Cancer Institute has three research programs focused on the themes of Cancer Control, Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis and Experimental Therapeutics. Additionally, pediatric cancer research led by faculty at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital and Penn State College of Medicine is a very visible part of Penn State Cancer Institute and greatly benefits from THON and Four Diamonds.
