The pitch at Athlone Stadium was deemed to be unplayable after heavy rain in Cape Town
Ireland's final pool game in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship against Australia has been cancelled because of heavy rain in Cape Town.
The game was scheduled to kick off at 13:00 BST at Athlone Stadium but was delayed before eventually being called off.
World Rugby said: "Final call for Athlone Stadium is that Ireland v Australia is not safe to go ahead and has been cancelled. Two points awarded to each team."
Willie Faloon's Ireland side, who had won their opening two games, will now progress to the semi-finals as Group B winners.
There are two other games scheduled to be played at Athlone Stadium today, with France taking on Wales at 16:30 and South Africa hosting England at 19:00.
World Rugby said that "all other matches are to be advised on a match-by-match basis, updates to follow".
