The Women Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee has organized a one-day seminar for female sports coaches and administrators in the Southeast.
 
The event held in Awka, the Anambra State capital, was chaired by Mrs. Ngozi Obikwelu, and had as its theme: “Capacity building in sports”.

Speaking on “Overcoming obstacles to successful sports coaching and administration”, the Chairperson, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Women Commission, Professor Florence Adeyanju, enjoined participating coaches to set themselves apart by getting quality training and marketing their credentials, being innovative and current in coaching techniques, having good philosophy of coaching, among other things, in order to be successful.

On strategies for overcoming obstacles in successful sports administration, Professor Adeyanju called for regulation, establishment of well-structured sports development programmes to identify and nurture talent, as well as policies that promote gender equality and opportunities at all levels.

Earlier in a remark, the Secretary, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Women Commission, Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, said the programme would help improve knowledge and capacity of female coaches and administrators in order to improve performance in the sports sector.
 
Host and Sports Ambassador to Nigeria on Rugby, Princess Alban Ugonwezeh-Agugo, said participants were exposed to programmes designed to empower women in sports for more meaningful contributions.

Some of the participants, including the Director of Sports, Imo State, Mrs. Patricia Ezeji, and Mrs. Stella Okpokwu from Enugu State, said they are going home with better knowledge, and called for more of such programmes to encourage women in sports.
