Recent reports indicate that the Super Eagles of Nigeria are poised to receive a new head coach or technical adviser in days to come.
According to recent reports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is close to hiring a new coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. According to popular news outlets, an official announcement is expected later this week or early next week.
This decision follows Nigeria’s recent 1-2 defeat to Benin Republic, which has put their qualification for the 2026 World Cup in doubt. In response to this setback, the NFF and the Sports Ministry have agreed to bring in a foreign technical adviser to improve the team’s prospects.
An anonymous source from the NFF told The Guardian that the decision has been made, and the new coach is set to arrive in the country by the end of the month.

It was also highlighted that the chosen coach for the role is one of three foreign candidates who were initially shortlisted before the federation decided to go with former Super Eagles star Finidi George. George recently stepped down from his role after the NFF’s choice to hire a foreign technical adviser.

The source stated, “I can’t say exactly who the board has chosen as I don’t have that information, but we have been told that the new manager would be unveiled in the next couple of days. I understand that he is an ambitious coach, who is eager to work with the array of stars in the Super Eagles.”
Reports emerged on Monday, June 17, 2024, that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had approached Marc Brys, the Cameroon Coach, to become the new head coach for the Super Eagles.
Brys has been at the centre of controversy since his appointment by the country’s sports ministry, which was against the wishes of the Cameroon FA, led by Samuel Eto’o. Following a recent dispute, Eto’o dismissed Brys, only for him to be reinstated after the Cameroonian government intervened.
Despite Cameroon leading its group after four games, there are suggestions that Brys might be considering a move to a more harmonious working environment, as he has not dismissed the possibility of interest from Nigeria.
