PDP chair seeks end to local govt marginalisation

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Jema’a Local Government Area, Nathaniel Bawa, has called on stakeholders to zone state party Chairmanship position to the LG.

The Party Chairman made the appeal in an interview with journalists on Thursday at the one year anniversary celebration of the member Representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a LG.

Nathaniel lamented that the Jema’a LG chapter of the PDP has been marginalised in the distribution of positions within the party’s top hierarchy at the state level despite the sacrifices and contributions to its development over the years.

He pointed out that in the last 21 years, the LG never had a working Committee member while all the other seven LGAs have held top positions at one time or another other even at the national level.

“In the run-up to the 2020 Congress, the Kaduna South senatorial District caucus met in Kagoro where Jemaa demanded that they should be allowed to produce the next zonal Chairman because since 2003 they never had a working committee member despite being the Headquarters of the zone and their various contributions to the party especially in winning elections.

“The caucus agreed with the position of Jemaa but pleaded that Jemaa should allow the then zoning to be, but next time Jemaa will be given the first right of refusal and our representative insisted that that should be put in the minute and that was done,” he added.

According to him, the meeting was chaired by the former Deputy Governor, Nuhu Bajoga, while the Secretary of the meeting was Simon Arabo.

He noted that now is the time to make use of the caucus position by calling on all stakeholders in the zone to concede the chairmanship seat to the Jemaa Local Government Area.

“We believed that it only be considered in the spirit of fairness that the Chairmanship position be zoned to Jema’a as a way of spreading mutual respect and promoting harmonious cohesion within the rank and file of the party.

“Jema’a Local Government has shown excellent loyalty and goodwill towards the PDP and the people are ready and willing to go the extra mile in support of the party,” Bawa stressed.
