Champions League final STOPPED by three pitch invaders as Dortmund star intervenes – The Mirror
The Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid was interrupted after just seconds due to a fan running onto the pitch to try and grab a selfie with Jude Bellingham
The Champions League final was halted after just 30 seconds after a small number of pitch invaders managed to breach security.
One made a beeline for Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham for a selfie before taking snaps of himself in the centre-circle.
And TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher then revealed that one of the three pitch invaders was apprehended by Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Sabitzer.
All of the invaders were wearing t-shirts which appeared to bear the name of streamer Mellstroy on them. A fourth pitch invader was stopped before he could enter the field.
The incident caused a two minute delay to the match and fans could be heard booing from the stands while the scenes played out on the pitch. The invasion was not broadcast by TNT Sports.
The incident overshadowed the start of the showpiece final at Wembley Stadium. The pitch invaders were eventually removed by security staff.
A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said at half-time: "It is illegal to enter the field of play at Wembley Stadium, and we strongly condemn the actions of those who interrupted the UEFA Champions League Final shortly after kick-off.
"All of the individuals have now been arrested. We will support the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken."
It was a huge talking point of the early stages of the game, with the pitch invaders running onto the pitch just 30 seconds after kick-off. Before the game, all eyes were on Jose Mourinho who was a TNT Sports pundit for the European showpiece.
And, in typically-outspoken fashion, Mourinho didn’t hold back on his views on football. Speaking about his former club Manchester United, Mourinho accused Erik ten Hag of not getting the best out of Sancho.
The 24-year-old was loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January having been exiled from first-team training in September following a fall-out with Ten Hag after posting on social media he had been made a scapegoat for their troubles by the United boss, who criticised the winger’s performances in training.
Sancho had a starring role in the Champions League semi-final win over Paris St Germain, helping Dortmund return to the final for the first time since 2013, and Mourinho believes mistakes were made at United.
“As a player we know his talent. For sure the kid made mistakes. But for sure also his manager was not able to get the best out of him,” he told TNT Sports.
“I think in this case for sure they (United) look at it and try to analyse what happened at Man United and what he found at Dortmund.”
Mourinho admits he also had difficulties with some players but said experienced managers had to learn from their mistakes.
“If I look to my own history sometimes I failed with players, I couldn’t create the right empathy and I couldn’t understand the player’s DNA, I couldn’t help players to grow in the right direction,” said the Portuguese, who added he will “maybe travel tomorrow” when asked whether he was taking a new job at Fenerbahce.
“The majority of the times I did but on some occasions I couldn’t. I tried to understand the nature of the player and they have the talent but sometimes not the mindset that you want.
“Normally it is not multi-factorial. Normally it is the manager, the player, the family, the agent, the club.
“Looking at myself as a coach I did many times get the best out of young players and help them to be what they were in the future. Other times I failed.
“Even being multi-factorial we are part of it and as coaches with more experience we manage situations of deja vu when we get older and try to help the player to go in the right direction.”
