Premier League final day 2024: Final scores, results, standings as Man City win title, Chelsea reach Europe – Sporting News
The 2023/24 Premier League season concluded today, on Sunday, May 19, in one last extravaganza of English football.
Manchester City knew a win would be enough to secure a record fourth consecutive title, and they did their job well, defeating West Ham 3-1 at a jubilant Etihad Stadium. It meant that Arsenal's late winner to seal a 2-1 defeat of Everton was not enough for them to claim top spot.
With the UEFA Champions League places set, but the remaining European qualification were left up for grabs. Tottenham made sure of fifth pace, and a Europa League berth, by beating Sheffield United away. Chelsea finished a spot behind them after holding on against Bournemouth, while Manchester United won 2-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion to avoid their worst-ever Premier League points return — although they still finish in eighth place, the lowest they have ever ended an EPL season.
At the bottom, Luton Town join Sheffield United and Burnley back in the EFL Championship, while Nottingham Forest survived.

1:54 p.m.: David Moyes, who managed West Ham for the last time today, could only speak of his admiration for Pep Guardiola and his City team. “There used to be an argument that clubs couldn’t win the title back-to-back,” he said via BBC Sport. “He has blown that sky-high. Four in a row is incredible.
“Everyone in football is in awe of his coaching but there is more to it than that. He is a really good man manager and has the ability to control players. Either that or he has some hairdryer because he has got them on a string because they won’t step out of place. His ability to manage is second to none.”

1:00 p.m.: FULLTIME: Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth. Chelsea will finish the season in sixth place. That could be enough for a Europa League spot, depending on the FA Cup final result.

12:48 p.m.: GOAL! Brighton 0-2 Man United (Hojlund, 88′): Rasmus Hojlund gets his second goal of the week as a substitute, and United look like they’re heading for three points. If they see this out, they will avoid posting their worst ever Premier League points return.
12:44 p.m.: Andre Brooks was shown a red card for Sheffield United, but the referee has overturned the call after a VAR check. It shouldn’t make much difference to the result.
12:40 p.m.: GOAL! Brentford 2-4 Newcastle (Guimaraes, 77′): Newcastle’s two-goal lead is restored! Could that be Bruno Guimaraes’ last act as a Magpies player? It might just have sent them into the Conference League.

12:32 p.m.: GOAL! Brentford 2-3 Newcastle (Wissa, 70′): Well, now! Brentford are making a real game of things in this second half, and Yoane Wissa has pulled them back to within one. What a comeback this would be!
12:30 p.m.: GOAL! Luton Town 2-4 Fulham (Wilson, 68′): Harry Wilson finishes a clinical counter-attack, and Fulham’s two-goal cushion is restored.
12:27 p.m.: GOAL! Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham (Kulusevski, 65′): Kulusevski gets his second goal, and that’s the points secure for Spurs. They will finish in fifth place and take that Europa League spot.

City’s approach play is patient, the ball is nudged back to Rodri, and he sweeps home first time into the bottom corner, with Alphonse Areola not able to stop the ball going in. That brought back memories of his winner in last year’s Champions League final. Is there a greater big-game player in the league?

11:05 a.m.: GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 West Ham (Foden, 2′): That didn’t take long at all! Phil Foden, the newly crowned Premier League Player of the Season, crashes home a strike to put City ahead. The title is in their hands already.
11:04 a.m.: GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Nottingham Forest (Wood, 2′): Chris Wood strikes after just two minutes to put Forest ahead against his former club! If there were any lingering worries that relegation might still be possible today, that should dispel them.

7:48 a.m.: Away from the title race and Anfield, there’s a potentially fascinating — if kind of meaningless — final day in store for Manchester United. They head to England’s south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion knowing that a victory may well be necessary if they are to avoid their worst ever Premier League season. The trouble is, with an FA Cup final coming up next week, Erik ten Hag may well wish to give some key players a rest and accept that rather gloomy league record.
For Brighton, it promises to be a particularly odd day given that head coach Roberto De Zerbi will take charge of his final game, the club having somewhat dramatically announced his departure yesterday.
