Premier League final day 2024: Final scores, results, standings as Man City win title, Chelsea reach Europe – Sporting News
The 2023/24 Premier League season concluded today, on Sunday, May 19, in one last extravaganza of English football.
Manchester City knew a win would be enough to secure a record fourth consecutive title, and they did their job well, defeating West Ham 3-1 at a jubilant Etihad Stadium. It meant that Arsenal's late winner to seal a 2-1 defeat of Everton was not enough for them to claim top spot.
With the UEFA Champions League places set, but the remaining European qualification were left up for grabs. Tottenham made sure of fifth pace, and a Europa League berth, by beating Sheffield United away. Chelsea finished a spot behind them after holding on against Bournemouth, while Manchester United won 2-0 at Brighton & Hove Albion to avoid their worst-ever Premier League points return — although they still finish in eighth place, the lowest they have ever ended an EPL season.
At the bottom, Luton Town join Sheffield United and Burnley back in the EFL Championship, while Nottingham Forest survived.
The Sporting News is providing continuous updates following all 10 matches on the final day.

1:54 p.m.: David Moyes, who managed West Ham for the last time today, could only speak of his admiration for Pep Guardiola and his City team. “There used to be an argument that clubs couldn’t win the title back-to-back,” he said via BBC Sport. “He has blown that sky-high. Four in a row is incredible.
“Everyone in football is in awe of his coaching but there is more to it than that. He is a really good man manager and has the ability to control players. Either that or he has some hairdryer because he has got them on a string because they won’t step out of place. His ability to manage is second to none.”
6 – Pep Guardiola has clinched his sixth Premier League title with Manchester City – he is just the fourth manager to win as many as six English top-flight titles, along with Sir Alex Ferguson (13), George Ramsay (6) and Bob Paisley (6). Pantheon. pic.twitter.com/tl7dR2k1fi
1:41 p.m.: Jurgen Klopp is giving his farewell speech to Anfield. “I’m surprised. I thought I’d already be in pieces but I’m not. I’m so happy about you all, the atmosphere, the game, being a part of this family and about us, how we celebrate this day. Thank you so much!”

1:38 p.m.: Was it ever really in doubt?
35 – Manchester City have now gone 35 matches unbeaten in all competitions (W29 D6), the longest run ever by a Premier League team. In English top-flight history, the only team with a longer unbeaten run is Nottingham Forest between March and November 1978 (40). Relentless. pic.twitter.com/yi8zEEFmzv
1:26 p.m.: Mikel Arteta tells Arsenal fans that now is not the time for sadness. “All this is happening because you started believing, you started to be patient and started to understand what we tried to do. All the credit has to go to the players and the staff,” he said. “Don’t be sad. We want much more than that, and we’re going to get it.”
Arsenal’s 20-year wait for a Premier League title goes on.
Liverpool 2-0 Wolves
Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham
Luton Town 2-4 Fulham
Brighton 0-2 Man United
Man City 3-1 West Ham
Arsenal 2-1 Everton
Brentford 2-4 Newcastle
Crystal Palace 5-0 Aston Villa
Burnley 1-2 Nottingham Forest
Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth

It’s also over at Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal beat Everton 2-1. In the end, the result didn’t matter.
1:01 p.m.: FULLTIME: Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham, and Brentford 2-4 Newcastle. Spurs finish fifth, and Newcastle seventh. They’ll play Conference League football next season.
1:00 p.m.: FULLTIME: Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth. Chelsea will finish the season in sixth place. That could be enough for a Europa League spot, depending on the FA Cup final result.
12:59 p.m.: FULLTIME: Liverpool 2-0 Wolves. Jurgen Klopp’s final match in charge ends in victory.
12:58 p.m.: FULLTIME: Luton 2-4 Fulham, and Crystal Palace 5-0 Aston Villa.
12:56 p.m.: FULLTIME: Brighton 0-2 Man United. United end the season with an away win and a clean sheet! Would you believe it?
12:55 p.m.: FULLTIME: Burnley 1-2 Nottingham Forest. Nottingham Forest are officially SAFE. Luton Town are relegated.
12:54 p.m.: GOAL! Arsenal 2-1 Everton (Havertz, 89): Arsenal are finally ahead and it’s that man Kai Havertz with the goal once more, but it looks like being too little, too late. After a VAR check, the goal is allowed to stand.
Watch in USA:
Kai Havertz puts Arsenal in front late, but it surely won’t be enough as Manchester City close in on another title. pic.twitter.com/X5A6wRa05Z
12:52 p.m.: GOAL FOR WEST HAM!… but wait. Surely this will be disallowed? The corner drops to Tomas Soucek, who turns it into the net, but it was rather obviously done with his hand. Even his celebrations looked sheepish. That goal has been disallowed.
12:48 p.m.: GOAL! Brighton 0-2 Man United (Hojlund, 88′): Rasmus Hojlund gets his second goal of the week as a substitute, and United look like they’re heading for three points. If they see this out, they will avoid posting their worst ever Premier League points return.
12:44 p.m.: Andre Brooks was shown a red card for Sheffield United, but the referee has overturned the call after a VAR check. It shouldn’t make much difference to the result.
12:40 p.m.: GOAL! Brentford 2-4 Newcastle (Guimaraes, 77′): Newcastle’s two-goal lead is restored! Could that be Bruno Guimaraes’ last act as a Magpies player? It might just have sent them into the Conference League.
12:35 p.m.: GOAL! Crystal Palace 5-0 Aston Villa (Eze, 69′): Palace have a FIFTH against Villa, and from the looks of things, that won’t be the end of the scoring today. Villa’s week of celebrating seems to have caught up with them.
12:34 p.m.: GOAL! Burnley 1-2 Nottingham Forest (Cullen, 72′): Josh Cullen gets a goal back for relegated Burnley, which gives their fans at least something to cheer.
12:32 p.m.: GOAL! Brighton 0-1 Manchester United (Dalot, 73′): We have a breakthrough in our one remaining goalless game! Diogo Dalot caps a good period of the game for United to put them ahead.

12:32 p.m.: GOAL! Brentford 2-3 Newcastle (Wissa, 70′): Well, now! Brentford are making a real game of things in this second half, and Yoane Wissa has pulled them back to within one. What a comeback this would be!
12:30 p.m.: GOAL! Luton Town 2-4 Fulham (Wilson, 68′): Harry Wilson finishes a clinical counter-attack, and Fulham’s two-goal cushion is restored.
12:27 p.m.: GOAL! Sheffield United 0-3 Tottenham (Kulusevski, 65′): Kulusevski gets his second goal, and that’s the points secure for Spurs. They will finish in fifth place and take that Europa League spot.
12:27 p.m.: GOAL! Crystal Palace 4-0 Aston Villa (Mateta, 63′): That’s his hat-trick! Mateta gets his third of the day with his third shot. Villa have absolutely given up here. You can’t blame them after the great season they’ve had.
12:24 p.m.: GOAL! Manchester City 3-1 West Ham (Rodri, 59′): Is that the goal that settles the title race? City’s approach play is patient, the ball is nudged back to Rodri, and he sweeps home first time into the bottom corner, with Alphonse Areola not able to stop the ball going in. That brought back memories of his winner in last year’s Champions League final. Is there a greater big-game player in the league?
BIG GAME PLAYER.
RODRI STRIKES TO MAKE IT 3-1. MAN CITY HAVE ONE HAND ON THE TROPHY. pic.twitter.com/JuUFTu5IxS
12:22 p.m.: GOAL! Sheffield United 0-2 Tottenham (Porro, 59′): Pedro Porro absolutely thunders shot into the net to give Spurs a 2-0 lead. That’s the 103rd goal Sheffield United have conceded this season in league play,
12:20 p.m.: Arsenal haven’t started the half brilliantly and Everton are threatening on the break. In case you had forgotten, the Gunners must win today to have any chance of the title. You can follow that game here.
12:16 p.m.: GOAL! Luton Town 2-3 Fulham (Doughty, 55′): Alfie Doughty scores his first home Premier League goal on the final day with a clever free-kick that caught Fulham cold. Who saw this being the game of the day??
12:15 p.m.: GOAL! Crystal Palace 3-0 Aston Villa (Eze, 54′): Villa are very much on their holidays as Eberechi Eze makes it 3-0 to Palace.
12:13 p.m.: GOAL! Luton Town 1-3 Fulham (Jimenez, 49′): Raul Jimenez gets his second goal of the day, and Fulham are heading for three points.
12:11 p.m.: TWO GOALS AT STAMFORD BRIDGE! Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth (Sterling, 48′ Badiashile OG, 49′): Chelsea quickly doubled their lead after the restart, Raheem Sterling dribbling past Max Aarons before his shot squirmed in, but Enes Unal got one back just a minute later as his shot from inside the box deflected in off Benoit Badiashile.
12:10 p.m.: GOAL! Brentford 1-3 Newcastle (Janelt, 48′): Brentford have a lifeline! Vitaly Janelt has pulled a goal back.

11:49 a.m.: TWO GOALS AT LUTON! Luton Town 1-1 Fulham (Traore 43′, Morris 45+1′): Adama Traore’s goal gives Fulham a short-lived lead as Carlton Morris levels from the penalty spot.
11:47 a.m.: GOAL! Manchester City 2-1 West Ham (Kudus, 43′): OH MY WORD, WHAT A GOAL! West Ham’s corner drops to Mohammed Kudus at the far post. He juggles the ball into the air and hits a quite sensational overhead kick! I’ll say again: do we have a title race yet??

11:43 a.m.: GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Wolves (Quansah, 40′): Jarell Quansah makes it 2-0, prodding the ball high into the net after Mohamed Salah’s scuffed shot was blocked. Klopp is signing off with three points.
11:42 a.m.: GOAL! Arsenal 0-1 Everton (Gueye, 40′): That could be the goal that truly kills Arsenal’s title hopes! It’s an unlucky one for the Gunners to concede as Idrissa Gueye’s free-kick smacks off the head of Declan Rice and flies into the net.

11:41 a.m.: GOAL! Crystal Palace 2-0 Aston Villa (Mateta, 39′): It’s that man again! Mateta doubles Palace’s lead against a Villa side playing very much like a group of players who have spent most of this week celebrating Champions League qualification.
11:40 a.m.: GOAL! Brentford 0-3 Newcastle (Isak, 38′): That win looks secure now! Alexander Isak gets on the scoresheet this time.
11:38 a.m.: GOAL! Brentford 0-2 Newcastle (Murphy, 36′): Newcastle double their lead through Jacob Murphy and are surely heading for a win on the final day.
11:36 a.m.: GOAL! Liverpool 1-0 Wolves (Mac Allister, 34′): Liverpool get the breakthrough as Mac Allister glances a good header into the corner from Harvey Elliott’s cross from the right of the box.

11:33 a.m.: Calvert-Lewin hits the post! The Everton striker sees his shot strike the woodwork and then puts the rebound into the side-netting. Arsenal appear to have let their levels drop a little given the scoreline at the Etihad Stadium.

11:30 a.m.: Red card at Anfield! Nelson Semedo is sent off for a poor challenge on Alexis Mac Allister. The game remains Liverpool 0-0 Wolves.
11:27 a.m.: Newcastle think they have a second goal, but an offside check sees it disallowed. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland has just spurned a golden chance for 3-0. Is he trying to make this final day a bit more interesting?
11:23 a.m.: GOAL! Brentford 0-1 Newcastle (Barnes, 21′): Harvey Barnes gives the Magpies the lead in London. They’ll be finishing seventh in the table as things stand.
11:22 a.m.: GOAL! Manchester City 2-0 West Ham (Foden, 18′) City have been in total control here and now their lead is doubled, Foden converting first time from Jeremy Doku’s low cut-back. Arsenal have dominated their game against Everton, but it remains 0-0. Not that it matters much.

11:18 a.m.: GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Bournemouth (Caicedo, 17′): Oh, my goodness! Moises Caicedo scores from the halfway line! Neto raced from his box to stop Nicolas Jackson reaching the ball, but his under-pressure clearance found Caicedo, who picks out the back of the net in incredible fashion.

11:17 a.m.: GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Nottingham Forest (Wood, 14′); Wood makes it 2-0! VAR has to intervene to overturn a previous call to disallow the goal, and Forest double their lead. Penny for the thoughts of those clubs who think the tech should be scrapped next season…
11:16 a.m.: GOAL! Sheffield United 0-1 Tottenham (Kulusevski, 14′): Sheffield United’s season doesn’t look like ending on a happy note. Dejan Kulusevski has struck for Spurs, putting them firmly on course for a fifth-place finish. The goal did come against the run of play, it must be said.
11:13 a.m.: GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa (Mateta, 9′): What has Oliver Glasner done with Jean-Philippe Mateta? The Palace striker might just have been the most in-form forward in the league in these final weeks. He’s scored another one here, which is allowed to stand after a VAR check.
11:05 a.m.: GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 West Ham (Foden, 2′): That didn’t take long at all! Phil Foden, the newly crowned Premier League Player of the Season, crashes home a strike to put City ahead. The title is in their hands already.
11:04 a.m.: GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Nottingham Forest (Wood, 2′): Chris Wood strikes after just two minutes to put Forest ahead against his former club! If there were any lingering worries that relegation might still be possible today, that should dispel them.
Here we go! One final spell of 90 minutes to decide the season.
10:58 a.m.: Jurgen Klopp walks out of the Anfield tunnel one more time, turns, and takes it all in. A tifo covers the stands. Everyone is shaking his hand or giving him a hug. And here comes You’ll Never Walk Alone. Whether or not you’re a Liverpool fan, this is a special farewell.
10:55 a.m.: Kickoff is just minutes away up and down the country.
10:38 a.m.: Jurgen Klopp is asked how he might feel about hearing You’ll Never Walk Alone at Anfield for the final time. “A little bit emotional,” he tells Sky Sports, “but I’ll try to do the job. I would really like us to make a really good game. That would be really cool.”

9:25 a.m.: It’s a sign of Chelsea’s crazy season that they begin today knowing that they could finish fifth in the table if results go their way. That would be some achievement given they still seemed to be mired in complete absurdity just a couple of months ago. The Blues can take some inspiration from Emma Hayes’ women’s team, who became WSL champions for the seventh time only yesterday.

8:58 a.m.: We’re about two hours from kickoff of today’s games (as a reminder, they all start at the same time today. Here's why.).
8:28 a.m.: This isn’t always the case in the north-west of England in May, but the weather today is glorious — and hot. How City would love an early goal so they can spend the rest of the afternoon passing West Ham to death.
The scene is set. pic.twitter.com/JzWTj94a5V
8:13 a.m.: So, how do things look at the bottom of the table? Well, not great, obviously, if your team is down there, but let’s look at what’s left to play for. We know that Sheffield United and Burnley are already relegated, regardless of results today. It’s pretty darned certain that Luton Town will be joining them, but it’s not absolutely certain just yet: if Nottingham Forest have a really, really bad day, and Luton pull off their biggest ever Premier League win, they could just about survive.
Keep the faith, Hatters fans!
Get in early. Wear orange. Show your support this Sunday! 🧡
7:48 a.m.: Away from the title race and Anfield, there’s a potentially fascinating — if kind of meaningless — final day in store for Manchester United. They head to England’s south coast to face Brighton & Hove Albion knowing that a victory may well be necessary if they are to avoid their worst ever Premier League season. The trouble is, with an FA Cup final coming up next week, Erik ten Hag may well wish to give some key players a rest and accept that rather gloomy league record.
For Brighton, it promises to be a particularly odd day given that head coach Roberto De Zerbi will take charge of his final game, the club having somewhat dramatically announced his departure yesterday.
Brighton & Hove Albion has confirmed that head coach Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club after tomorrow’s final Premier League match of the season against Manchester United.
7:24 a.m.: Liverpool may not be in the title race any more, but this will be a momentous day at Anfield nonetheless, as Jurgen Klopp will be taking charge of his final match as Reds manager. After nearly nine years, and eight major trophies, he will bid farewell to the Kop.
