Liverpool’s title dream may be over but the Reds return to Anfield looking to restore some pride in Jurgen Klopp’s penultimate home fixture as they take on top-four chasing Tottenham in the Premier League.
Klopp’s side have won just one of their five fixtures in the Premier League and a 2-2 draw at West Ham last weekend saw Liverpool surrender their title challenge for good as Arsenal and Manchester City continue to pull away. A touchline argument between Klopp and Mohamed Salah threatened to turn the German’s farewell sour but the manager insists that the dispute is over ahead of returning to Anfield.
Ange Postecoglou was left reeling after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night, Tottenham’s third loss in a row, as Spurs look to close the gap to Aston Villa in the race for the final Champions League qualification spot. The Tottenham manager was furious with his players at Stamford Bridge and is now under some pressure for the first time after admitting his team lacked “conviction and belief” in his plans.

There’s the third! Harvey Elliott pinches the ball from a dawdling Emerson Royal and drives down the right. He checks back on to his left foot and crosses beautifully for the arriving Gakpo, who beats Romero in the air and floats a header past Vicario.
47 min: Liverpool are straight back on to the front foot, with Trent Alexander-Arnold venturing into the box and fizzing in a cross which Spurs manage to scrap clear.

43 min: Pape Matar Sarr is booked for blocking a free-kick, which was pretty needless, and Paul Tierney was unimpressed.
40 min: Alexander-Arnold is involved again, this time shooting after Romero had given away the ball in his own box. Elliott spread it right for the arriving full-back but the shot went over the bar.
37 min: Alexander-Arnold chips the ball to the far post where Luis Diaz tries a spectacular volleyed scissor-kick, but it sails wide. Liverpool are all over Spurs right now.
34 min: Liverpool are playing the ball around the Spurs box as they probe for that second goal, which feels like it’s coming. Romero blocks a Robertson shot with his head, although a few Red arms appeal in vain for handball.
