Oyo LG polls: 80% eligible voters deliberately disenfranchised – APC

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Wale Sadare, said about 80 per cent of eligible voters were deliberately disenfranchised in the local government election held across Oyo State, on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Sadare was reacting to the election results declared on Sunday, April 27, by the Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, Isiaka Olagunju (SAN).

The outcome of the election showed that the Peoples Democratic Party won the chairmanship seats in the 33 local government areas of the state.

Sadare who described the election as a complete sham, said that his party(APC) had expected a decent electoral process.

Sadare said: “It was a complete sham and a rape of democracy… We expected a decent electoral process but the governor and his party (PDP) connived with the state’s Independent Electoral body to mess everything up.

“About 80 per cent of the eligible voters were deliberately disenfranchised and they came up with fictitious figures as votes recorded. The leadership of our great party will meet very soon and we will make public our decision soon.”

It will be recalled that Saturday PUNCH, on  April 27, 2024, reported the APC’s Publicity Secretary’s demand for the cancellation of the local government election on the ground that “the election falls below the minimum global standard.”
