Premier League top goal scorers 2023/2024: Updated EPL golden boot rankings as Salah, Palmer, Foden chase … – Sporting News

After setting a new single-season Premier League goals record (36 goals) en route to the Golden Boot award in 2022/23, Manchester City star Erling Haaland came out of the gates strong once again.
After 15 appearances, Haaland was comfortably the leader in the 2023/24 Golden Boot race, with 14 goals. However, after suffering a foot injury in December, he did not play again until he made a substitute appearance in the 3-1 win over Burnley on January 31.
Despite needing time to reacclimate himself after returning from injury, Haaland’s brilliant brace to down Everton 2-0 on February 10 put him out in front of the race once more.
He then scored against Brentford on February 20, giving him a goal against all 21 Premier League opponents he has faced thus far in his glittering young career. Despite a dreadful first-half miss, Haaland was on hand to crown City’s 3-1 derby win over Manchester United on March 3, but he drew blanks against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Mohamed Salah has long been on Haaland’s tail, his goal against Brentford taking him to 15 as he made a timely return from injury and Africa Cup of Nations duty. He missed the games against Luton Town and Nottingham Forest, though. Salah returned as a substitute during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against City, where he and Haaland were each unable to find the target, but he did eventually score after nearly a dozen missed efforts in the 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Dominic Solanke had moved level with Salah after scoring the goal that triggered Bournemouth’s remarkable comeback from 3-0 down at home to Luton Town, and his strike against Everton saw him climb above the Liverpool star. He is now amongst Haaland’s closest challengers along with Ollie Watkins, who missed the midweek defeat to Man City due to injury.
Phil Foden is also surging, putting forth a Player of the Year caliber season, with the latest entry a hat-trick against Aston Villa to begin April. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer continued to surge forward himself with a dramatic late hat-trick against Manchester United, suddenly right alongside the pack chasing Haaland.

The City striker had built an insurmountable lead over Harry Kane (30 goals), who previously won the Golden Boot three times. Brentford’s Ivan Toney was the other to hit the 20-goal mark, while the previous season’s joint-top scorer Mohamed Salah slowly rose up the ranks to fourth.

It came down to the final day of the 2021/22 season between Tottenham’s Son Heung-min and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Son’s two goals at Norwich City on the final day allowed him to momentarily move ahead of Salah in the scoring table. But the Liverpool star came off the bench and netted late to catch Son, as the two stars shared the Golden Boot on 23 goals.
