Arsenal vs Brighton prediction, odds, expert football betting tips and best bets for Premier League match – Sporting News
Arsenal continue their chase for a first Premier League title in 20 years as they travel to the Amex to take on Brighton for a weekend matchup.
The Gunners are locked into the most thrilling finish to an English league season in recent memory, as they sit two points behind leaders Liverpool and level on points with Man City. Arsenal do hold the goal differential advantage for now, a major boost in such a tight race.
Ninth-placed Brighton seem to be hanging on for dear life at the end of the season, having stabilised their former defensive nightmares but sacrificing attacking production in the process. Brighton played to routine shootouts through much of this year, but have contested four straight close, low-scoring games which have featured a combined five goals. It’s not brought the Seagulls any improvement in the final results, having won just two of their last eight matches across all competitions since hammering relegation-threatened Sheffield United 5-0 back in mid-February.

Brighton won’t want to hit the beach just yet, however, as the (likely) expanded European places afforded to English clubs next season could mean they still are within reach of a spot in one of the lower competitions, currently just two points back of seventh and five behind sixth-placed Manchester United with eight games remaining.

How can you bet against a team that is as on fire as Arsenal are? Brighton are slumping, while Arsenal have bulldozed everyone in their path. Since the start of February, the Gunners have scored 27 league goals in eight games, while conceding just three. How much more dominant can one team be?
There’s still nine games to go in the season, and maintaining that level while also putting forth a Champions League charge will be monumentally difficult, but at this point in time, the Gunners are the hottest team in England, and anything but an Arsenal win here would be shocking.
While both teams have proven capable of scoring goals in bunches at times this season, the recent fixture congestion for both sides, plus a slew of injuries, have caused a bit of regression up front. Brighton especially have slowed to a crawl as Karou Mitoma is done for the season and others within the squad also fail to prove fit.
Arsenal too have found themselves in a bit of a rut, having established a goal differential superiority amidst the title challengers and now are closing up shop hoping to prioritise results over an impressive scoreline. The Gunners have the Premier League’s best defensive record both on goals allowed (24 in 30 matches) and on expected goals as well.
The under 2.5 goal total on this match is enticing at +135, but in all honesty, it’s more likely that Arsenal find a few more goals than Brighton end up hitting the back of the net themselves against this defensively formidable Arsenal back line.
Since the start of February, Arsenal have put forth a clear strategy: establish an early lead and sit on it. The Gunners lead the Premier League with both goals and expected goals in that span, with 17 of their 28 goals coming before the break, a heavy skew.
They play that way at the back as well, proving slightly “more open” (if you can even call it that) in the first half while they look for goals. The Gunners have only conceded three total league goals in their last eight games, but two of those have come before the break — if that even means anything.
Look for Mikel Arteta’s instructions to involve putting this game away before the break and then coasting to the finish line, knowing there are Champions League games in their future next week.
