Two teams sporting toxic vibes look to avoid further free-fall clash at Old Trafford as Manchester United host Everton in an early Saturday kickoff in the Premier League.
Man United appeared ready to make a real run up the league table into the European places, but were humbled against rivals Man City last weekend, reminded of who is still the biggest player in town. Amidst the larger picture, it feels as if Erik ten Hag’s time at the club is limited, and the feeling remains that the new ownership will want to install their own leader this coming offseason.
The general aura around Man United has been acidic for some time, even as they manage to secure results, with the decline of Bruno Fernandes at the forefront of the discussion. Injuries have also taken a toll, with the attack slumping in the absence of Rasmus Hojlund while injuries to Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Lisandro Martinez have also been felt.

Everton, meanwhile, were buoyed by the reinstatement of five points on appeal of their financial sanctions, but their league form has plummeted them right back into the relegation battle. The Toffees have gone 10 league matches without victory, dating all the way back to mid-December, leaving them 16th in the table, just five points above the drop.

Asking Everton to win at Old Trafford feels like a bit much, especially at under 3/1, but a draw at similar value seems more than achievable. The Toffees have secured a draw in three of their last six visits to Old Trafford, even if victory has eluded them at that ground in over a decade.

With both teams to score offering no value at -170, this is the next best option. Everton have not been left wanting for chances up front, collecting over 2.0 xG in four of their last five Premier League games against teams not named Manchester City.
It’s been the defensive end of things that is looking their biggest weakness, at least enough to where they aren’t finishing chances well enough to make up for it. The Toffees haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last five games, and just prior to that, zeroes against Fulham and Aston Villa came while conceding a combined 3.71 xG across those two.
Manchester United, meanwhile, haven’t been held off the scoresheet since December 23, seeing all nine of their Premier League games meeting or exceeding this three-goal total in that span. No Rasmus Hojlund hurts, but Marcus Rashford is an elite finisher when given the tools to succeed.

Fascinatingly, both these teams have been better on the road this season, which plays into Everton’s hand as the visitors in this match. Manchester United have 22 points in road matches this season, which sees them sit fifth in the league, while they have the exact same total in home games, ranking 10th.
Everton, meanwhile, have just 13 points at home this season, ranking 16th, but have 12 points on the road, including five victories, seeing them 13th-best in the top flight.
This value is maybe not quite where you want it to be, but a desperate Everton to get points off a humbled Man United half the time seems a reasonable expectation.
