A 1-0 win over Angola in the quarterfinals was enough to send Nigeria into the last four, where a date with South Africa awaits. Bafana Bafana knocked out one of the pre-tournament favourites, Morocco, in the Round of 16 before edging out Cape Verde on penalties.

The Super Eagles started their campaign with a draw against Equatorial Guinea before defeating the hosts 1-0 thanks to William Troost-Ekong’s penalty. They then beat Guinea-Bissau by the same scoreline through an own goal from Opa Sangante.
In the Round of 16, they defeated Cameroon 2-0 thanks to two goals from Ademola Lookman, who scored the only goal of the game in their quarterfinal win over Angola.
