iOS 17.2.1 update to improve battery life on iPhones in select regions – The Indian Express
Apple has just released the iOS 17.2.1 update for eligible iPhones. Alongside fixing some bugs and enhancing security, the new update also claims to improve iPhone battery life. This release comes just a few weeks after Apple’s major iOS 17.2 update, which introduced the Journal app, Spatial video recording for the iPhone 15 Pro series, and other features.
Interestingly, Apple has specifically mentioned that the iOS 17.2.1 update addresses the battery drain issue in the Japan and China releases, while the international version only notes that the update provides important bug fixes, however, the company has not detailed on the exact bugs that have been fixed. The update is available for all models, from the iPhone XS to the latest iPhone 15 series, including iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, and the iPhone SE.
Here’s an interesting note about iOS 17.2.1 🤨🔋
The Japanese release notes mention a fix for battery drain:
“This update addresses an issue where the battery may drain quickly under certain conditions.”
Meanwhile, the English release notes do not mention this. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/lQ192SEJp6

For users already on the latest iOS 17.2, the iOS 17.2.1 update is approximately 200 MB in size. However, for users on older versions like iOS 17 or even iOS 16, the update size may vary.
Additionally, Apple has issued macOS 14.2.1 for eligible Macs and has updated the Safari web browser, which also includes a security update.
For users with older iPhones ineligible for the iOS 17 update, there’s an iOS 16.7.4 update available for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. Similarly, there’s also a new iPadOS 16.7.4 update for the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. While these updates do not introduce new features, they primarily focus on enhancing the security of these devices.
Apple is known for keeping their devices up-to-date and secure, and this is a testament to that statement, as the company releases a new software update for the iPhone X, which is almost a six-year-old smartphone.
