Sky Sports break 3pm blackout rule on Soccer Saturday as fans fume at latest announcement – The Mirror
A clip of Manchester City’s Premier League clash at home to Brighton was shown live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday as one fan admitted it was a “mess” by showing the game
Sky Sports accidentally broke the 3pm blackout on Saturday as they showed a snippet of Manchester City's game against Brighton.
The incident occurred during the first three minutes at the Etihad Stadium when Kyle Walker played a lofted ball down the right hand channel towards Erling Haaland. Sky accidentally showed the clip for a matter of seconds, before taking it off air and going back to Clinton Morrison, who was working on the match for Soccer Saturday.
Eagled-eyed viewers spotted the mistake on social media, with one fan saying: "I see soccer Saturday is still a mess bringing up the wrong graphics, showing a live feed of the Man City Brighton game."
Another said: "Soccer Saturday accidentally showing City v Brighton there… Keep it on please." A third added: "P*** take knowing they can show em and just don't." A fourth said: "Sky Sports News just accidentally showed some of the Man City game."
There has been calls in recent times for the 3pm blackout to the scrapped. The current rule means no Premier League or English Football League games can be broadcasted live on television between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on Saturday afternoons.
But, on Wednesday, it was confirmed that the blackout will stay in place, despite 70 more matches being available for broadcast. The Premier League are set to increase the amount of live games from 200 to 270 and every 2pm kick off on a Sunday will instead be televised.
One fan took to social media on Saturday to have their say on the current 3pm blackout, with Manchester United set to face Sheffield United at 8pm.
They said: "Why have a Saturday game on at 8pm it’s a bloody joke, Saturdays should be revert back to the 3pm kick off, get rid of the 3pm blackout and broadcast the b***** matches, everyone gets them so why not do it officially and the PL broadcast them on their own platform."
